Oatmeal Crispies--this recipe is from the 1953
edition of Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book.
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
Directions:
Thoroughly beat shortening and sugars until creamy;
add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
Beat in flour with salt and soda.
Stir in oats and nuts. Shape into logs;
wrap and chill thoroughly. Slice 1/4-inch thick;
place on ungreased cookie sheet
and bake in 350 degree oven about 10 minutes.
Makes about 60 cookies.
