Oatmeal Crisps Cookies

This recipe was on a Betty Crocker box fifty years ago.

Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped California walnuts

Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars.
Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
Sift together flour, salt,
and soda; add to creamed mixture.
Stir in rolled oats and nuts. Mix.
Form dough in rolls, 1 to 1-1/2 inches in diameter.
Wrap in waxed paper, aluminum foil or clear plastic.
Chill thoroughly.
With sharp knife, slice cookies about 1/4 inch thick.
Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet in a 350 degrees F.
oven for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
