A popular dessert of Mexico and
the rest of Central America.
With fried bread, nuts and raisins.
Ingredients:
Half a loaf of French bread - sliced
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup peanuts
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, cubed
1 (1-inch) piece cinnamon stick
1 whole clove
Cooking oil
Bring sugar, cinnamon stick, clove
and 2 cups of water to a boil.
Lower heat, simmer until syrupy.
Brown slices of bread in oil.
Place on paper towel to remove excess.
In buttered pan, layer bread,
then raisins, peanuts and cheese.
Repeat the layering until those
ingredients are gone.
Pour the syrup over layers.
Bake in oven for 1/2 hour
or until bread is soft.
