This is a good recipe over a hundred years old.
Ingredients:
2 pounds lean beef
4 medium onions, sliced
1 cup currents or seeded raisins
1/4 cup vinegar
4 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
1 tablespoon chopped orange rind
Directions:
Cut beef into 2 inch cubes;
cook in small amount of fat until brown.
Add onions; cook until tender.
Add about 1 cup water.
Add remaining ingredients;
simmer until beef is tender,
adding water as needed.
Thicken gravy; serve.
