Tuna Helper's Pasta Salad

I used to love Tuna Helper's Pasta Salad and
was so disappointed when they discontinued it.
Over the years I've kicked around different ideas.
This is what I think is a fairly close approximation to it.

Ingredients:
1 (6 1/2 ounce) can tuna, drained
1 lb cooked spiral shaped pasta
1/2 medium onion, minced
1 cup frozen peas, cooked
1 cup Miracle Whip
1 (5/8 ounce) packet Italian salad dressing mix
milk

Directions:
In a large bowl combine Miracle Whip dressing and
packet of Italian dressing mix. If mixture is too thick,
thin with some milk until desired consistency.
Add minced onion, tuna, and peas.
Mix well.Add cooked pasta.
Toss to coat pasta and chill in the refrigerator.

Didn't it have some pouch with the peas and onions and you boiled that with the pasta and then cut it open and mixed it in ? Then there was a sauce packet of dried seasonings and I can't remember if I used Miracle Whip or mayonnaise. I think maybe Onion powder , garlic powder in there.

I loved the Tuna Salad variety of Tuna Helper when I was in college in the '80s. Haven't been able to find it in years, but here's a very close alternative. Buy the Creamy Parmesan variety of Suddenly Salad (also made by Betty Crocker), add a handful of frozen peas to the pasta when you cook it and add a 6-ounce package of tuna when you mix everything together. The Suddenly Salad seasoning packet that you add to mayo is almost exactly the same as the Tuna Helper seasoning packet. ... Now I'm very afraid that Betty Crocker will discontinue the Creamy Parmesan variety of Suddenly Salad. Why can't they leave anything alone?

I just found this recipe. I loved this stuff when I was a student in the 80's. I made this, and it's very good. Close to the original. Well done!

I recreated the Betty Crocker Recipe the best that I could, it's darn close. I use 3 cans of White Albacore Tuna (thoroughly drained and squeezed) 1 pkg of "DRY" Good Seasons Dressing Mix. 1 Cup of Hellman's Mayo & 1 cup of Miracle Whip, 1 16 oz pkg of EX LG #50 Sea Shell Pasta (you can use what ever you prefer, the old Betty Crocker Box had Spiral Noodles), Dashes of Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Lemon Pepper Seasonings, 1/2 container of Dry Onion (small), 1/4 container of Parsley (small), 1-2 Pieces of Celery (finely chopped/minced), 1/2 LG Onion (finely chopped/minced) & 1 bag of Frozen Peas (thawed, do not cook them like the old recipe so they keep their crunchiness) Cook the Noodles Al Dante' & cool thoroughly (I out in ICE Water), Mix all ingredients together and Chill in Fridge for 1 hour OMG YUM!!!! ENJOY =:) You can add more seasonings (for your taste) or Mayo if you like Creamier etc.

1/4 container of Parsley (small)
1-2 Pieces (from stalk) of Celery (finely chopped/minced)
1/2 LG Onion (finely chopped/minced)

** The Old Tuna Helper had Spiral Noodles, a PEA/ONION Dry Pouch that you Boiled, a Season Packet (Dry) and you just added Mayo. I added Celery and a few other things to make it tastier and I love colors while presenting my food. I will tell you that "EVERYONE" rants over my creation and I get asked for the recipe all the time. I make it fun, good luck =:)

Thank you for the recipe. I once call the company . They told me the recipe is in their Volt . and they would not be bringing this back. I wish company's would stop trying to reinvent the wheel. I stopped buying their other helper product cause they making that one. Me and my family use to eat helper meals a least 3 times a week
