Perfect Pan Fried Hot Dogs

I make these once in a while, usually around the Forth of July.
When I need to get my fix of a hot dog for the Holiday.
When buying hot dogs remember it's going in your body.
Please don't get those chicken or turkey ones.

Ingredients:
Hot dogs,(buy a good brand)
Hot dog buns
Water
Butter
Mustard
Ketchup
Onions,peeled,chopped
Hot dog relish
1 tablespoon oil
Directions:
Remove hot dogs if in package, wash under cold water.
Place hot dogs in a sautee or fry pan,
put enough water in pan to cover hot dogs
almost half way up there sides.
Bring to a boil,lower heat,simmer five minutes.
The water might evaporate,that's o.k.
Add oil to pan shaking the hot dogs a bit.
Fry until brown marks appear on hot dogs.
Remove from pan, serve on buttered, toasted buns
along with your favorite toppings.

I can tell your a chef because you use only one pan to braise and then saute the hot dogs. This is a good way to quickly make tasty hot dogs.
I'm doing this with Italian sausages.
Also adding onions and green peppers.

I'm looking forward to trying this! I was familiar with the evaporating-water-in-a-pan thing because I do that with breakfast sausages. But I never thought of adding oil after the evaporation.

I grew up on a lot of barbecue. I was given tough, well-done, heavily-peppered T-bone steaks when I was WAY too young to appreciate even a steak done right. And I was expected to consume adult-sized portions.

Well, the result of this is, I never barbecue. I prefer pan frying for burgers, love to have 'em dripping and pink inside, and I like my hot dogs briefly boiled, just enough to get 'em hot (about as much time as it takes to prepare the buns with condiments). They're already cooked in the package, after all. Thanks for the recipe!

I made two hot dogs this way,
after the water went away
I added a bit of butter and
a drizzle of olive oil.
The hot dogs browned up
and were great tasting.

This recipe sounds good, but you clearly aren't too knowledgeable about nutrition. How could you ever seriously make the statement "When buying hot dogs remember it's going in your body. Please don't get those chicken or turkey ones." ? Chicken and turkey sausages/hot dogs are far healthier, and taste pretty great too. Good 'ol hot dogs are tasty and OK every once in awhile, but if you're going to think about what's "going in your body," you should be more wary of the originals than of turkey or chicken. Cheers.

I'm with the author of this recipe,
chicken hot dogs are made using chicken fat and skin, along with all the little parts of the chicken that aren't good enough to make cat or dog food out of.

Hi guys, does this recipe work with frozen hot dogs? Do I need to defrost?

I never put frozen hot dogs right in the pan, but it should work.
I thaw them for a minute or two in the microwave oven then put them in the pan.
