In the south it's common to make
barbeque sauces using soda pop.
This is a recipe for a good BBQ
sauce with root beer as a base.
It's just sweet enough and if
want more root beer flavor you
can add some root beer extract.
Ingredients:
1 cup root beer
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon light molasses
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a heavy,
medium saucepan and bring to a boil
over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Decrease heat to medium-low and
simmer until the sauce has been reduced
to 1 1/2 cups, about 20 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper,
cool slightly and transfer to a bowl.
Cover and refrigerate.
The sauce will last,
refrigerated, about 2 weeks.
