This good recipe started out being
just cooked beans in tomato sauce.
After cooking for most of the day
and taste testing it often,
I turned it into a really good
summer sausage and bratwurst stew.
Ingredients:
8 summer sausages, cooked
8 bratwurst, cooked
2 cups dried navy beans
water to cover beans and more to cook them
1 onion, peeled and chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and smashed
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard, with seeds
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 slices bacon, cooked and chopped fine
3 tablespoons sweet smoked paprika
2 drops liquid smoke
2 drops Gravy Master
Directions:
Place beans in a pot, cover with water
to soak overnight. The next day drain
water from beans and cover with fresh.
Add onion, garlic and bring pot to a boil.
Lower heat to a simmer, add all other ingredients.
Cover and simmer for 3 hours or so
until beans are soft and done.
Cut up the sausages and bratwurst on the diagonal
and cook in stew until heated through. Serve.
