This season the maple trees are slowly
giving up sap for making maple syrup.
Here is a method of making your own
imitation syrup with ingredients at hand.
Some use maple extract in place of vanilla.
Be carful because boiling sugar is Hot
use metal utensils for stirring in pan.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn starch
1 cup cold water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Directions:
Combine the white sugar, brown sugar
and cornstarch in a sauce pan, then add
in the cold water and stir to mix well.
Bring to a boil and then lower heat to
a simmer for about 30 minutes to thicken.
Stir in vanilla extract and butter for flavor.
Cool and store in a glass jar in refrigerator.
This recipe makes about one cup syrup.
